Know Early Miscarriage Symptoms for safe Pregnancy

Miscarriage is very common but awareness of the miscarriage symptoms can prevent it and help the fetus to develop into a healthy child.

Finding out that you are expecting a baby is an emotional and exciting time. It is also a time when moms-to-be have lots of questions lurking in their minds that what's normal, what's not, and when you should call a doctor, etc. One common fear among pregnant women is the fear of miscarriage. Miscarriage at any stage of pregnancy is very painful, devastating and traumatic experience that about 10% to 20% of expectant mothers go through. As we all know precaution is better than cure so it’s better to know some early signs of miscarriage for safe Pregnancy.

Depressed women due to miscarriage

The first 20 weeks of pregnancy are very crucial as around 80% of miscarriages take place during that period. Miscarriage is generally due to chromosomal abnormality in the baby. Other reasons include hormonal imbalance, health conditions like diabetes & kidney disease as well as injury or trauma experienced by a woman.

Miscarriage Symptoms Every Pregnant Woman Should Know

Bleeding
Vaginal bleeding or spotting is one of the first symptoms of miscarriage. The volume of blood can range from light spotting to heavier flow. Large amounts of blood with clumps of grayish colored tissue/ Clots/ light pink mucus are serious and dangerous signs of a miscarriage. Bleeding may be accompanied by lower abdominal pain or lower back pain. If you experience any type of bleeding or pain during pregnancy, contact your doctor immediately.

Pain
A sharp pain in the lower back and abdomen combined with bleeding/cramping is another warning sign of a miscarriage. The pain starts from the lower abdomen and spread to the lower back or pelvic region. It can vary from dull to period-like cramping.

Blood clots
Passage of blood clots along with pinkish/grayish tissue in the early days of pregnancy is a signal that fetal matter is being passed. This is a sure sign of miscarriage.

Movement of foetus
Miscarriages occurring after 20 weeks of pregnancy can be determined by the movement of foetus. The movement of foetus starts from the 4th month of pregnancy. So, mother should stay attentive to her baby activities and when she feels a sudden or drastic decrease in fetal movements, immediately contact the gynecologist.

Disappearing Pregnancy Symptoms
Although pregnancy symptoms change as pregnancy progresses, they should not stop altogether. The discontinuation of pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness and weight loss in the early weeks of pregnancy are also signs of a miscarriage.

Cramps
Cramps are normal during pregnancy as the ligaments are stretching. But, the cramps are warning sign of a miscarriage, if they are accompanied by bleeding, painful contractions or severe back pain similar to period cramps.
